My little brother spent the month with me in Austin, and this past weekend was the annual BatFest. This fest celebrates the largest urban colony of mexican bats in the world. Over 2.5 million little bats have made the Congress Ave bridge their home. And in the summer months, it's become an awesome viewing for locals and tourists alike. You don't need to be attending BatFest to see the bats come from under the bridge since this is a nightly routine!
We had food truck foods and sweets, heard some awesome bands play and watched street performers promote their show for later in September. There was a lot of people here this year, probably because it was the tenth year, or because Blue October was going to be playing later on that night. Crowd control and trafficking could have been handled much more smoothly. I have hesitations about going next year because of how bad it was.
